讲座内容:
This talk will discuss and summarize a number of research efforts related to multimedia analysis, retrieval and interfaces by the Informedia group at Carnegie Mellon University. In particular, the talk will cover multimedia applications in healthcare based on observations. The presentation starts with a review of almost 20 years of research in the Informedia digital video analysis group, starting from documentary data, to broadcast television, to semantic classification of internet video. Several years of research with novel approaches to large scale analysis of nursing home observations will be covered. Other research related to the observations during operation of medical devices will be described, and potential future directions.
Alex Hauptmann is a Principal Systems Scientist in the CMU Computer Science Department and a faculty member with CMU’s Language Technologies Institute. His research interests have led him to pursue and combine several different areas: video analysis, man-machine communication, natural language processing, speech understanding and synthesis, and machine learning. He worked on speech and machine translation at CMU from 1984-94, when he joined the Informedia project where he developed the News-on-Demand application. Since then he has conducted research projects on video analysis and retrieval on observational video with success documented by outstanding performance in the annual NIST TRECVID video analysis and surveillance event detection evaluations.
