Dr. Xing Xie is a lead researcher in the Web Search and Mining Group of Microsoft Research Asia, and a guest Ph.D. advisor for the University of Science and Technology of China. He received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1996 and 2001, respectively. He joined Microsoft Research Asia in July 2001, working on spatial data mining, location based services, and mobile and pervasive computing. He has served on the organizing and program committees of many international conferences such as WWW, UbiComp, GIS, CIKM, and KDD. He will be the program co-chair of UbiComp 2011. 演讲摘要:
Spatial data stands for any kind of data that has one or more fields concerning with location, shape, area and similar attributes. Spatial data mining tries to understand spatial data, discover relationships between spatial and non-spatial data, and construct spatial knowledge bases. Recently, the increasing availability of GPS-enabled devices is changing the way people interact with the Web and brings us a large number of GPS trajectories representing people’s location histories. Such real-world location histories imply, to some extent, users’ interests and intentions and enable us to better understand people and locations. At Microsoft Research Asia, we are working on various spatial data mining technologies for different applications. In this talk, I will present our recent work on this direction, as well as other related works in Microsoft and the industry.
