If you are a computer science/computer engineering/statistics/mathematics/physics undergrad or master student, and you are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree in data science, here is an opportunity for you.

Dr. Jin Chen is an Associate Professor at the University of Kentucky, School of Medicine, Institute of BioMedical Informatics. His lab is looking for three Ph.D. students to join a recently funded NSF project in 2016 fall. The students will be responsible for developing machine learning algorithms on the analysis of human and plant phenotype and genotype data that includes but are not limited to human brain EEG and ECoG signals, plant photosynthesis parameters, sensor data from personal wearable devices, and environmental factors. The principal research aim is to turn the sophisticated phenotype and genotype data into testable hypotheses for behavior analysis and drug discovery. The students will be hired as Research Assistant or Teaching Assistant, depending on their backgrounds. The students will receive Computer Science Ph.D. degree upon graduation. Read more at Dr. Chen's website at http://www.phenologic.org.

Basic Requirement: Bachelor or Master degree in computer science, computer engineering, data science, statistics, mathematics or physics.

Application Details: Send your CV including your research experiences and the GRE score to chenjin@gmail.com.

About Research: Linking big spatial-temporal phenotyping data to diseases and behaviors is a computationally challenging task. While researchers are eager to boost their research using modern phenotyping techniques, they encounter difficulties with the phenotype data analysis portion of their workflow, rendering high-throughput phenotyping a less attractive option in their research plans. However, once phenotype data analysis applications are developed and deployed, this bottleneck can be removed, resulting in smooth data interpretation processes and expedited research discoveries.
