In this position, you will be a member of a research team in China working with key partners in Europe, focusing on breakthrough capabilities in distributed, virtualized grid computing. In addition, you will be expected to contribute to published deliverables in the area of machine learning applied to infrastructure autonomics. This work will be in support of a major EU FP7 project on SLA-aware computing.Specific Responsibilities:- Research infrastructure service management interfaces and data sources.- Identify machine learning and data mining techniques suitable for predictive analysis of workload based on observed activity and detected trends.- Develop prototypes to assess and compare the most viable candidate techniques.- Work with project partners to integrate capabilities into an overall holistic prediction capability that extends across the service and infrastructure stack.- Contribute to the development of project prototypes and demonstrators.- Contribute to published deliverables and project publications.- Participation in team meetings, contributing to system design and architecture- Using existing open-source libraries and performing the research in an open and collaborative environment Qualifications You must be a Ph.D or MS candidate in Mathematics or Computer Science or related fields in a leading university in China and is willing to carry out your dissertation/thesis research in our lab in Beijing in infrastructure autonomics enabled by statistics-based machine learning techniques. Additional qualifications include:- Theoretical understanding and practical experience of machine learning and data mining.- Particular emphasis on probabilistic methods for classification and pattern recognition, including regression tree.- Familiarity with the major techniques, and with open source software libraries to enable application of these techniques.- Good knowledge of infrastructure systems management ¿ compute, network and storage, and interfaces to data sources.- Familiarity with Windows and Linux in server environment.- Good programming skills, ideally in Java environment.- Knowledge of grid computing and service oriented architectures and infrastructure would be beneficial.- Strong analytic and abstract thinking capability, problem solving skills- Highly motivated and capable of working towards set project goals and milestones- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment- Good verbal and written English skills
