The department of Computer Science and Technology was founded in 1999. Its predecessor, the Institute ofData and Knowledge Engineering, had been offering undergraduate courses and a master’s program in computer applications since 1978. The program has produced many famous scholars in computer science in China. It has been known for its significant contributions and outstanding achievements in the research area of database system.
The mission of the Department of Computer Science and Technology is to produce high-quality professionals with advanced knowledge and skills in computer science and technology. The department currently has 25 faculty members actively engaged in teaching and research, including 4 professors and 9 associate professors. All of the faculty members hold degrees of Master, 12 of them have doctoral degree. They form a group full of energy, cooperative and initiative spirits.
The department is very strong in both teaching and research. On teaching aspect, the department provides comprehensive curriculums from introductory-level courses to graduate seminars focusing on critical research areas, with emphasis in both fundamental knowledge and applications with the objective to extend knowledge horizons and to explore new technologies. The students in the department can find an unique set of opportunities to study for their bachelor, master or doctoral degree. The modules include foundation courses such as mathematics, physics, and foreign languages; technical courses such as the foundations of computer science, programming, assembler language, computer architecture, and data structure; and some professional courses in artificial intelligence, operation systems, language complier, database, computer networks, and software engineering.

The research areas of the department involve database and knowledge systems, data warehouse and business intelligenc, intelligent information retrieval, internet data management, multimedia data management and internet technology. Most of its research projects are strongly supported by government research programs, such as National 863 High-Tech Development Program, the National Science Foundation and so on.
