The Department of Economic Information Management was founded in 1978, making it the earliest department in China specializing in the application of mathematics and information technology in the field of economic management. In 1986, based on the original computing station of the department, an independent university computing center was established to serve the staff and students. In 1994, the Department of Economic Information Management merged with the university's information center, forming the School of Information.

Prof. Sa Shixuan

Professor Sa Shixuan is one of the founders of the School of Information. He comes from an upper-class family and is a descendant of the famous Yuan Dynasty poet Sa'dal. In 1978, with leading scholars such as Jiang Zhao, Chen Yunian, Wei Jingyu, and Zhao Shuyuan, he founded the Department of Economic Information Management at Renmin University of China. He served as the head of the department. Professor Sa is one of the pioneers in the field of database technology in China. He made great contributions to the development of database technology, publishing the first domestic textbook of database technology titled "Introduction to Database Systems" and being the earliest to publish research papers on database technology in China.
